Ranch Rodeos

The first event is team sorting. There are 10 cattle each with a number zero thru nine at one end of the arena. The challenge is to get all those cattle to the other end, one by one, in numerical order. The event is made even more challenging as the team does not know which number they have to start with until the announcer tells them. Any cattle that go out of order means an instant disqualification.

The second event, doctoring, involves roping a calf. Once the calf is roped and dallied (tied up properly) another team member, the doctor, comes in and places shaving cream on the calf given the impression of doctoring the calf.

The third event, trailer loading, requires the riders of the team to load a calf into a stock trailer, shut the gate and then load a horse into the back. Once the horse is loaded on, dismounted team members, must touch the front bumper of the truck hauling the trailer.

The final event, team penning, involves 30 cattle in an arena. The cattle are numbered in sets of three, with three number ones, twos, threes, etc. When the announcer calls out a number the team must sort out that number set. They are timed not only in how long it takes them to get those three cattle separated but how long afterward it takes them to get those three into a pen.
